What do you need your labels for?

Printed labels are used for all kinds of applications, including:

  • Product and packaging labels: For bottles, jars, boxes, bags and other retail packaging.
  • Manufacturing and industrial labels: For product identification, instructions, warnings and traceability.
  • Food and drink labels: For branding, ingredients, nutritional information and other product details.
  • Promotional labels and stickers: For special offers, events, campaigns and product launches.
  • Business and logistics labels: For stock identification, storage, handling and distribution.

Not sure which material, adhesive or finish will work best? Tell us what your labels need to do, and we’ll help you choose a suitable specification.

Which type of label is right for you?

Comparison of standard white, clear, metallic, textured paper and low-tack window labels

The right label depends on what you’re using it for, where it’s going to be applied and how you want it to look.

Standard White Labels

A good all-round choice for product packaging, identification labels and everyday business use.

Choose gloss for brighter, more vibrant colours or matt for a softer, more understated appearance. If your labels need to withstand moisture or regular handling, we can discuss more durable materials.

Clear Labels

Want customers to see the product inside your packaging? Clear labels work especially well on glass bottles, jars, and transparent containers. They give your packaging a clean, uncluttered look while keeping the contents visible.

Metallic Labels

Looking to give your product a more premium appearance? Gold, silver, and other metallic effects can make your labels stand out without covering the whole design. They’re particularly effective for cosmetics, gift packaging, and specialist food and drink products.

Textured Paper Labels

Sometimes a label’s feel matters as much as how it looks. Textured paper gives packaging a natural, handcrafted character, making it a good choice for artisan foods, preserves and products where presentation matters.

Low-Tack Window Stickers

Need a window promotion that’s easy to remove when the campaign ends? Low-tack stickers are designed for temporary displays and can be supplied with clear or opaque backgrounds. They’re particularly useful for shop windows, seasonal promotions and short-term advertising.

Not sure which is best? Tell us a little about your product and how the labels will be used. We’ll help you choose a material and finish suitable for your application.

How would you like your labels supplied?

Identical printed product labels supplied on rolls, sheets and individually cut, showing the three available formats

How your labels are supplied can make a difference to the price you pay. Rolls are generally the most economical option, while labels supplied on sheets typically cost around 10% more.

    Labels on Rolls

Applying labels by hand or using automated labelling equipment? Rolls are particularly practical for larger quantities and regular production runs. If you’re using a labelling machine, we’ll need the winding direction, core size, and label spacing at the enquiry stage to quote accurately and supply labels compatible with your equipment.

    Labels on Sheets

A convenient choice for smaller quantities or applying labels by hand. Easy to store, handle and use as needed, particularly when you’re working with several different designs.

    Individually Cut Labels

Need labels supplied separately rather than on rolls or sheets? Individually cut labels are useful for promotional packs, distribution to different locations or applications where each label needs to be handled separately.

    Getting the specification right

Choosing the right label isn’t just about how it looks. The material, adhesive and finish all play a part in how well it performs, especially when labels are exposed to moisture, frequent handling or demanding working conditions.

    Choosing the right material

Paper labels are often a good, economical choice for everyday packaging. But if your labels will be exposed to moisture, oils or regular handling, a more durable synthetic material may be a better option.

    Getting the adhesive right

Does your label need to stay firmly in place, peel off cleanly or stick to a difficult surface? The right adhesive depends on what you’re labelling and the conditions the label will be exposed to. In many cases, a standard permanent adhesive will work perfectly well, provided the surface is clean and dry.

Where will your labels be used?

Will your labels be used outdoors, exposed to chemicals, subjected to temperature changes or handled frequently? Knowing what they’ll encounter helps determine which materials and finishes are suitable.

    Choosing the finish

A gloss finish can make printed colours more vibrant, while matt gives a softer, more understated appearance. Protective laminates and varnishes can also help labels withstand scuffing, moisture and regular handling.

How much will my labels cost?

Printed labels in quantities of 100, 500 and 5,000, illustrating different production volumes

Size, quantity, material, and finish all affect the price of your labels. But there are often ways to keep costs down without compromising on quality.

How to keep your label costs down

Ordering larger quantities will usually reduce the price per label. If you use the same labels regularly, it’s worth considering your likely requirements over the coming months rather than placing several smaller orders.

Material choice matters, too. A standard white label may be perfectly suitable for your application, without paying extra for specialist materials or finishes you don’t need.

Ordering the same labels regularly? Tell us how many you typically use and how often you need them. We can look at the most economical quantities and discuss how best to manage your ongoing requirements.

    Getting an accurate quotation

To give you an accurate price, we’ll need the size, quantity, material, and finish you’re looking for, and whether you’d prefer your labels on rolls, sheets, or individually cut.

If you’re not sure about any of these details, that’s fine. Let us know what you’re using the labels for, and we can talk through the options.

If you already have a label specification or a sample of an existing label, that’s a great place to start.

    Product information and artwork guidelines

    Supplying your artwork

If you already have your label artwork ready, here’s what we need for the best print results.

    • Please supply your artwork as a print-ready, flattened PDF, with 3 mm bleed beyond the finished label size.
    • Resolution: Please supply a high-res, print-ready file
    • Colour: CMYK.
    • Bleed: Allow 3mm beyond the finished edge wherever colours or images run to the edge.
    • Safe area: Keep text, logos and other important details at least 3 mm inside the finished edge.
    • Fonts: Embed your fonts or convert them to outlines to avoid unexpected substitutions.

    Label shapes and sizes

Round, square, rectangular, oval or custom-shaped labels: the choice depends on your product and the space available.

Labels can be produced in a wide range of sizes, so there’s no need to restrict your design to a standard format.

What if your artwork isn’t quite ready?

If you’re unsure whether your artwork is suitable for printing, send us what you have. We can check it and let you know if anything needs attention before your labels go into production.

If you’d like us to design your label for you, we’d be delighted to help.
