The mother who mislaid her daughters for 6 months …

The name of Lady Pamela Hicks may not be instantly recognisable.

She’s not active on social media and at 96 years of age, isn’t likely to be.

Not only is she fantastically posh, but she has been part of the Royal Family inner circle all her life.

Which is hardly surprising given that she is the younger daughter of Earl Mountbatten and his somewhat eccentric wife, Edwina.

One summer when Pamela was eight years old, her mother left her and her sister in a hotel in Hungary in the care of their nanny and went orf travelling around Europe with her lover, the improbably named Bunny.

Where hubby was or what he was up to during that hedonistic fling isn’t recorded.

Still, Edwina and Bunny enjoyed such a wonderful, carefree time that she completely forgotten where she’d left her two daughters.

Unbelievably, it was six months before she was able to track down her two daughters again.

Most parents would reach for the smelling salts if they mislaid their kids for five minutes. To do so for six months requires some stretch of the imagination.

Luckily for our customers, we keep a closer track on things.

With records going back over three decades, it won’t take us six months to find your last job spec.

And it’s all part of the service.

Until next week.

PS Pamela’s life story also recounts that her mother kept a pet lion who enjoyed hiding by the croquet lawn and charging out at players, which must be considered mildly eccentric, even by the standards of the time. Brown trousers and cycling clips, anyone?
