What happened when Lidle stopped using flyers?
Numbers don’t lie, they say.
And big business is all over its numbers.
So, when major supermarket chain Lidl spits out some data, it’s well worth a peek under the bonnet to see what’s going on.
With over 12,000 stores in 31 countries, their bean counters don’t do stuff on a whim.
They test and test and then test again.
They decided to see what happened when they stopped flyer distribution in the province of Utrecht last year.
And the results were revealing. Because the humble flyer did rather well.
When they stopped sending out their promo leaflets, sales dropped by 7.7%.
And despite trying to make up the shortfall, digital ads couldn’t fill the gap.
Food for thought next time you’re looking for the proverbial silver bullet or next big thing because the answer might be right there in front of us.
