Many pet owners will recognise the scene.

You’re sitting in the waiting room at the vet waiting for one of your closest support workers (aka the dog) to be seen.

Anxiety is rising.

You, because you’re cursing forgoing the pet insurance when it was on offer and are now wondering how many noughts there might be on the end of the bill.

Fido is also worried. Because he’s been in before and knows that something unspeakable is almost certainly going to be inserted into an unmentionable part of his anatomy.

And that’s long before we get anywhere near long, sharp needles.

When your turn comes and the vet greets Fido with warm and comforting words, they may as well be speaking in ancient Egyptian as far as he’s concerned.

Fear pervades.
