A ticket to nowhere …?

Boarding a flight to nowhere and landing right back where you started from isn’t everyone’s idea of fun.

Most of us, if truth be told, prefer to land in a different place from where we took-off.

And with airlines and their planes Covid-clamped that’s not quite as easy as it used to be.

But who would have guessed at how much we’ve missed jetting off to the destination of our dreams after six months of lock-down?

Nature abhors a vacuum, as they say, and it hasn’t taken too long to fill.

Flights to nowhere began in Taiwan when their EVA Air was the first to spot the potential with a round-trip from Taipei in August.

Incredibly, all 309 seats were sold out within minutes – a feat matched by Qantas who sold out a scenic seven-hour round trip from Sydney in 10 minutes.

No mean feat considering that some of the seats were priced at £2,140 each.

Views over the Great Barrier Reef were presumably thrown in for free.

Ordinarily, selling flights is a tough job but these enterprising airlines were doing much more than that.

They were selling the experience which is a whole different ball game.

An interesting thought for any of us creating fresh copy for a new website or product mailer.

Trying to sell your product or service doesn’t make the earth move for most of us.

Selling the sizzle is where the magic happens.

Just like the old saying goes; sell the sizzle, not the sausage.

There’s a hard way and there’s an easy way.

Which one are you going to choose?

Food for thought this week perhaps.

I’m here for a chat if you want to bounce around a few ideas over the phone or … arrange a Zoom call.

Stay safe.
