A world without colour …

If you’ve been living under the same rock as me you’ve probably never heard of Despicable Me either.

But it turns out nearly everyone else has which is why it’s become the highest-grossing animated film franchise of all time.

You don’t get to pass Go on the Monopoly board and collect over $4.4 billion if nobody’s ever heard of you, which sort of shows that I should get out more.

Central to the stories are little capsule-shaped characters called Minions. No, me neither.

Obsessed with bananas and apples these odd little goggle-wearing, yellow-bodied critters dedicate their time to serving the most evil people they can find.

Personally, that’s a few too many eccentric character traits for my liking – but not everyone thinks that way.

Enter stage left the international colour matching company, Pantone.

Used all over the world, Pantone is THE colour matching system that tells you or someone on the other side of the world what a particular colour should look like.

So enamoured were they with the yellow Minions that they decided to name a colour after them. Minion Yellow.

Which is a really big deal because this is the first time in the company’s history that a pigment has been created and named after a character.

Yellow just happens to be my favourite colour but Minion Yellow is a little insipid for me, but we all respond to colour in different ways.

Which is why a good graphic designer with a well-practised eye can keep you on the straight and narrow.

If you want a second opinion on a project you’re working on right now, please give us a call. We’d love to hear from you.

Until next time.
