One-year-old dog biscuits …

For those interested in sleep-inducing reading the Office of National Statistics is a great place to start.

Some of their undoubtedly valuable insights are as dry and unappetising as a year-old dog biscuit and barely more digestible.

But dig around in their data and there are some extremely valuable insights.

You don’t need to be called Sherlock to know that November and December are busy times for the retail industry. Or that more than 20% of their sales can come in these months.

But the ONS data also reveals that off-fixture displays increase sales by over 300% vs on-shelf advertising.

To you and me that’s things like floor-standing displays and ceiling hangers although it probably means a whole host of things that display products more effectively.

It’s just another way of saying that shining a spotlight on what you do is likely to attract more customers.

As they say, the more you tell, the more you sell.

And it applies to all of us. Not just retail.

Food for thought as the festive season looms – NOW is the time to get organised.

If you want a sounding board or just want to bend my ear, I’m on hand for a chat about anything to do with Print or Web Design.

Stay safe.
