Coming 2nd isn’t on the agenda

The parallels between sport and business aren’t always clear.

But Netflix’s outstanding Drive to Survive offers more than its fair share.

Now in its 4th series, the main characters are well established, and Red Bull’s Christian Horner is, without doubt, the documentary’s steely-eyed missile-man.

Staring straight into the camera and with a menace that would have done Clint Eastwood proud, he growled “coming 2nd just isn’t on the agenda”.

Now, you might think this is simply a well-rehearsed line for the cameras …

But I don’t think so.

For someone as accomplished and driven as Horner, the quest for the No. 1 spot is everything to him.

That’s fine for Christian, you say, with his top team and multi-million-pound budget but what does coming 1st mean for me?

In truth, it can be lots of things. But for many, it means having a 1st class website that has …

  1. A clear purpose
  2. Engaging content
  3. Optimised for the top search engines
  4. Clear calls to action
  5. Easy navigation
  6. Mobile friendly
  7. An easy mechanism for you to update and add fresh content
  8. High-quality images – your own, not stock photos
  9. Linked up to Google Analytics

Elite sport operates in such a rarefied atmosphere that it’s not easy to see the applications for us, but simple things done well is a good place to start.

So, if you’ve got any projects you’re thinking of pressing ahead with, I’m on hand for a chat about anything to do with Print or Web Design.

Stay safe.
