You have got a backup, haven’t you?

Last Sunday I promised my dearly beloved that I’d fix the lock on our front door.

The door’s hinges have worn over the years which means that the latch didn’t fit into the receiver properly.

A dead simple fix.

Or so I thought.

All I had to do was remove the receiver, nip over to my brother’s farm workshop and use a small grinder to enlarge the aperture slightly so it would all fit together.

But when I got to the workshop door it was firmly locked and I just couldn’t remember the security code.

(Yes, I am now booked into the memory clinic, since you ask, although I can’t for the life of me remember what time I’m due in!).

Not only that, but the code I’d diligently written down on a piece of card had fallen out of my pocket somewhere along the way.

And I didn’t have a backup note anywhere.

Fortunately, Tom (my nephew) wasn’t a million miles away and came to my rescue.

But on another day, I might not have been so lucky.

Backups are rarely needed. But when they are, they’re a matter of some urgency.

So don’t hand over a memory stick containing your Magnum Opus without triple checking that the original is safely ringfenced on your hard-drive.

Like the poor chap who saved his manuscript on a memory stick and promptly deleted the file on his laptop… only to discover that the memory stick had been compromised and the PDF inaccessible.

On a brighter note, if you’d like to jump on a call for a quick chat about anything to do with your website backups, print or graphic display, I’d love to hear from you.

Just check my diary here to book your call.

Stay safe.
